William Parrish has been with the Sandboard Magazine staff since the launch of the web site in '95 and was instumental in the development and refinement of the site into what you see today. Although educational pursuits have previously held his participation on the dunes to a minimum in 2001 he returned with a vengence determined to make sandboarding a priority in his life!

"I missed sandboarding, but my education came first as well as obligations to take care of my disabled father." Yes, he's back to join the ranks of the proud. "I don't plan on going the Josh Tenge way of all-out back-flips but I do want to jump more and more and board at faster speeds!"
How'd he get into the sport you ask? Doctor Dune of course! "He asked me 6 years ago to help him put a website together to get the sport more publicity and get people more organized. Later I got invited to my first meet about five years ago, and have been hooked ever since."
William competed in a couple of Sand Master Jams but now is geared more towards helping organize the events. "Yeah, I felt that the events needed some extra things so I've been working on beefing them up so that everyone has even more fun then before!" William told us, "To me, it's like an amusement ride. Except you don't have to pay!"
Sandboarding isn't his only passion. William's expanding into snowboarding and weight training as well. "Yeah, I have friends in snowboarding and it only made sense that when the rain stopped my sandboarding the snow was often there. It works great because either way I can practice to better myself."
Currently William is finishing his last few courses for certifications in network engineering. These courses have been the focus of his life for the past 2 years and now it's paying off. Yet, sandboarding keeps tugging at his heart. "I guess sandboarding is just about impossable to get out of one's system. Once you get a taste of it you can't just give it up. It's just too much fun!"
William's future will be full of sandboarding since he's part owner of Sandboard Magazine and manages the "Sand Master Park Pro Shop" in Florence Oregon. "After my schooling I plan to work on developing the print version of Sandboard Magazine and some graphic board designs." Website development for the magazine is another of Williams duties so we'd say he has his life full of sandboarding!

Sandboarding the California Coast
35 runs a day!
William RIPS Point Mugu
Point Mugu has been his 'home town' dune and William makes the drive up the California coast almost every weekend to carve a little beach dune and soak up the sunshine. With Pacific Coast Highway right there at the bottom of the dune he can ride right down to his truck take a sip of water and race back up the dune for a few more runs. As his endurance and leg strength increased from the constant riding and climbing back to the top the number of runs increased too. Soon William was getting in 20 runs before lunch. Of course a regular weight training routine didn't hurt the effort either. To date, William has the most runs at Mugu in a single day! William was with the Sandboard Magazine crew for the "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" television show at Dumont Dunes to shoot NSL champion, Josh Tenge, landing a world record 45.2 foot back flip. With a front row seat to all the Dune Riders International competitions William is constantly impressed and encouraged by the best of the best.
